These links will take you to a variety of websites that are useful to school leaders and their schools. - Staff Matters - provides information and professional development ideas for staff health and wellbeing. The resources on the site take a universal and health literacy approach within the educational working context.
- School Aid - This charitable trust provides a way for Australian young people to help rebuild the lives of young people in areas that have suffered a major tragedy such as an earthquake, tsunami, cyclone, or conflict. The focus of this rebuilding is on helping the young people continue their schooling. Past examples of projects have been to build a school in Indonesia, a youth park in Beslan, a youth centre in East Timor, and school-based work in North Queensland after the 2006 Cyclone Larry. School Aid is supported by all the major school leaders associations in Australia.
 - The Legal Fund of State School Leaders - The Legal Fund was formed in April 2001 by South Australian school and pre-school leaders to provide legal assistance and advice to members in work-related situations. It is an incorporated body, which is managed by an Executive Committee elected by members. Membership is open to employees of DECS who are employed as a Principal, Deputy Principal or Assistant Principal of a school, Director of a pre-school, Superintendent, or Manager of a Support Services Unit. The Legal Fund retains legal advisers to give opinion on legal matters, or to be engaged in support of a member's application for assistance. It is registered as a professional association with the Australian Tax Office, and is solely funded by members' subscriptions, which are tax deductible.
- Children's Book Council of Australia - promotes excellence in children's and young adult's literature by running the Book of the Year Awards, biennial conferences for its members, and activities and events for young people.
- Press Council of Australia - the self-regulatory body of the print media. It was established in 1976 with two main aims: to help preserve the traditional freedom of the press within Australia and ensure that the free press acts responsibly and ethically.
What's the Parliamentary Education Office (PEO)? The PEO was established by the Parliament of Australia in 1988 to provide parliamentary education services to schools, teachers and students. The PEO works from the Parliament House building in Canberra. The PEO is unrivalled in its delivery of resources and professional development about the parliament and its work.
Click on the PEO's logo to the right to visit their website.
What does the PEO do? It does two things: 1) Teaching and 2) Reaching.
Teaching: through the Education Centre in Parliament House (a modified committee room representing a parliamentary chamber), the PEO delivers an hour-long role-play to visiting students—over 81,000 in 2005–06. Simulation of the House of Representatives and Senate proceedings in chamber and committee format is a popular and successful educational recipe that is increasingly replicated by teachers in the classroom.
Reaching: over many years the PEO has developed a sophisticated outreach strategy designed to benefit teachers and students who might not visit Parliament House. To support this strategy the PEO:
- produces education materials and resources
- maintains a specific education based, resource rich, interactive website
- delivers and supports professional development initiatives for teachers in school clusters and in universities and through fellowships at Parliament House.
How is the PEO staffed? The PEO is a qualified and experienced outfit. In addition to its professionally trained and accredited educators the PEO is also staffed leading creative artists and skilled project managers.
