Session 02 – Susan Boucher, CEO of Principals Australia (formerly APAPDC)

  • PA does not work alone – Teaching Australia, Reconciliation Australia, beyondblue, HREOC, state and territory education and health jurisdictions, headspace. Plus the school leaders associations.
  • The role of PA is supporting school leaders in schools – not crowding their work.
  • Working with corporate Australia – examples: News Ltd, Ernst & Young,  RM Williams, Clayton Utz, Cadbury Schweppes, Commonwealth Bank – work with their CEOs to build social capital in schools, especially in ATSI communities. Working with Andrew Forrest on the 50,000 Jobs Initiative.
  • Committed to professional practice in schools. L5 At Work – online program – 16 modules. Just-in-time material – based on research and on practice. www.leaderslead.edu.au
  • Closing the education gap – Dare To Lead (over 5000 schools and school leaders).
  • Closing the health and wellbeing gap – MindMatters, KidsMatter, Community Matters, Staff  Matters. Schools are the places where a lot of this work can be done, but it must be resourced. The Mind Your Head Conference recently = role of school leadership is critical; student voice is critical. Need for health professionals to recognise that.
  • Future: Professional standards; ICTs for school leaders; national leadership framework.
